Papers and photographs of Aimee O'Keefe Kinney, a nurse who served with Base Hospital 50 in France during World War I and later became the first woman in Wisconsin to command an American Legion post. Collection includes a small scrapbook that contains ephemeral mementos of her service such as postcards, poems, song sheets, orders, passes, and small military papers as well as written notes of friends' addresses. Correspondence includes one original letter and several photocopied letters in which Kinney wrote about sailing to France, hearing about the front lines from soldiers, and the end of the war. Military papers include letters of recommendation into the Army Nurse Corps, a certificate of identification, and a summary of service. A folder of biographical information includes her certificate of death and several typed biographical pieces on her life, her service in the war, and her membership in the American Legion. Newspaper clippings focus on her role in the American Legion and highlight her election as commander of the Otis King Post No. 50 in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1936. Veteran materials include some documentation of treatment received through the federal veterans' hospital in Wood, Wisconsin. The oversized folder contains a certificate of graduation from a Minnesota nursing school from 1909. Photographs include one original print, a negative, and several copy prints of Kinney at various times in her life from her World War I nursing service through her life as a veteran. Four candid shots from World War I include a deck scene from the ship on which Kinney returned to the U.S. and three shots of World War I soldiers in uniform.
